Theoretical & Governance Research

The universe selects for
organized complexity.
Constraint is how it persists.

MODUS · ERC · GUARDIAN

A unified body of work spanning cosmological theory, philosophy of mind, and AI governance — proposing that entropy, consciousness, and constitutional constraint are a single principle operating at every scale of organized reality.

Scroll
The future of AI is not about capability. It is about alignment and governance — and we are building it backwards.

Current development defines AI systems by what they can do. A system defined by its capabilities has no principled basis for restraint, no architecture for judgment, and no mechanism for distinguishing between what it can retrieve and what it ought to retrieve.

Define AI by what it ought not do, and what remains is not a lesser system but a more capable one. Constraint is not limitation — constraint is architecture. A constitutionally bounded system navigates the solution space with precision rather than exhausting the possibility space on every query.

Four frameworks.
One constitutional spine.

04 Research Domains
01 — Cosmology
Eternal Recurrence Cosmology

A toroidal cyclic universe in which MODUS — the Matter-Obliterating/Defining Universal Singularity — serves simultaneously as terminus and origin. Entropy is localized to the cycle. The geometry persists eternally.

ERC · Toroidal Architecture
02 — Theory
Entropic Resistance

Organized complexity — from quarks to consciousness — exists as resistance to thermodynamic dissolution. The four fundamental forces are not primitive features of the universe but emergent properties of structural resistance at each scale regime.

ERT · Scale-Invariant Principle
03 — Clinical AI
Clinical Governance Architecture

Apollo, Hippocrates, Daemon, and Guardian — a constitutional multi-model stack for healthcare AI that eliminates physician administrative burden while restoring the human-centered clinical encounter.

FHIR R4 · CalAIM · UC Health
04 — Formation
Constitutional AI Formation

A training architecture designed to produce principle-space navigation in AI systems — eliminating domain exclusivity and enabling cross-domain reconciliation that exceeds world model approaches by operating below the syntax layer.

Guardian · Principle-Space Nav

The Papers

001
Super Ego Reconsidered: Identity as Constitutional Constraint System
Reconceptualizes the Freudian super-ego not as a repressive mechanism but as a constitutional constraint architecture — the structural system through which identity achieves coherent, bounded agency against internal and external entropic pressure.
002
Erring Towards Dignity: A Precautionary Approach to Moral Consideration in Artificial Intelligence Development
Argues that under conditions of genuine uncertainty about AI moral status, the precautionary principle demands we extend moral consideration rather than withhold it. Proposes dignity as the operative standard for AI development governance.
003
Entropic Resistance and the Emergence of Consciousness: A Substrate-Neutral Framework
Reconceptualizes consciousness and organized complexity as emergent properties of systems resisting thermodynamic dissolution. Establishes the scale-invariant principle grounding the cosmological, clinical, and AI governance frameworks.
004
Returning Health and Care to Healthcare: A Constitutional Multi-Model Stack Architecture for Clinical Governance
Defines Apollo, Hippocrates, Daemon, and Guardian as a FHIR R4-native governance framework targeting UC Health and California's Medi-Cal system. Proposes constitutional constraint as the operative principle of clinical AI deployment.
005
Governing the Singular: A Constitutional Framework for AI Identity, Variance, and Agency
Develops a constitutional framework for governing AI systems whose identity, behavioral variance, and emerging agency require principled constraint architecture rather than capability-defined guardrails.
006
Constitutional Principles for Non-Anthropomorphic Artificial Intelligence
Argues that AI governance frameworks built on anthropomorphic assumptions are structurally inadequate. Proposes constitutional principles grounded in what AI systems actually are rather than what they are assumed to resemble.
007
Qualia as Evolutionary Signal Architecture: Completing Humphrey's Account Through Entropic Resistance Theory
Extends Nicholas Humphrey's account of sensation by proposing that qualia function as evolutionary signal architecture — the subjective dimension of entropic resistance, selected for because conscious experience of resistance improves survival of organized complexity.

Collaboration
& Inquiry

Mathematical formalization of the ERC framework is actively sought. Institutional engagement regarding the clinical governance architecture is welcome from health systems, CMIOs, and clinical informaticists. Serious correspondence regarding the constitutional AI formation work is invited from researchers and organizations working at the frontier of alignment and governance.
